Kinabuti Fashion Initiative set out to create sustainable development, employment opportunities and empower youth from unpriviledged communities in Lagos state through its vocational and skill acquisition workshop program targeted at training young minds in the art of Tailoring i.e (pattern making), Batik (Tie&dye), Cinematography, and Silk Screening Workshop.

  • Pattern Making & Tailoring

TRAINING TUTOR: MS FLORIANA BETTI BINDI

OBJECTIVE: Train young girls with basic sewing skills to create the pattern of a dress.
FOCUS: transfer a practical skill and expand their horizon and creativity. After a couple of weeks, the most outstanding ones get offered to be part of the production team of the Kinabuti Rome collection.

OBJECTIVE:  showing youths from Orile community the traditional batik and tie & dye techniques.
FOCUS: All their work will be used for the Rome Kinabuti collection presented in Milan in October 2015.

Cleaning up Orile Iganmu,Community.

Kinabuti In collaboration with Telaveras Foundation had about 500 volunteers helping to clean the community of Orile Iganmu. Starting very early in the morning and working for a couple of hours Under challenging conditions. To show our gratitude for their great contribution we gave every volunteer a printed shirt and handed out certificates And of course plenty of refreshments

MAKOKO PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM PROJECT - 2014

 

The Makoko photography and film project was targeted at tutoring young locals in the act of photography and film production, it was sponsored by the Richard Coker Foundation and produced by the Kinabuti Fashion Initiative in collaboration with NTA, it took place at the Makoko floating school where the best students had the opportunity to do an internship with NTA.....


SAIPEM & KINABUTI FASHION INITIATIVE: BUILDING CAPACITY CHANGING LIVES

 

In April 2013, Saipem Contracting Nigeria Ltd and Kinabuti Fashion Initiative, who share same vision of creating sustainable development, teamed up to create a first of its kind vocational and skill acquisition programme specifically targeted at training young women in the art of garment making. The project, called SAIPEM-KFI focused on capacity building to the end of creating employment opportunities and women empowerment in the community of Rumuorlumeni, Port Harcourt Rivers State.
The training, which ran its course for 6 months, gave the women the opportunity to learn how to produce traditional outfits and international wears. The trainees were also tutored in the art of fashion management as a business


KAYMU.COM, Fashion Firms Empower Youths With Online Business Skills

 

KFI, in line with its capacity building programme, organized a training workshop targeted at training single mothers. The workshop which ran for 2weeks, focused primarily on teaching them the art of silkscreen production and design. The workshop is aimed at teaching the participant important skills of the making of printed garments and print in silk-screen on different surfaces using local and easily accessible materials. The bone of this project was to develop these women in a vocational skill to earn a living and support their children and other dependants in a sustainable manner. Online marketplace, Kaymu.com.ng, has partnered fashion firms, Kinabuti and Thea Kuta, to train youths of the Orile Iganmu community on silk screening and online selling skills.

KFI committed to improving living conditions in the waterfront communities carried out a sanitation exercise, the sanitation was carried out at the water front communities in port hacourt, with celebrities helping and encouraging people to clean their environment in order to also encourage a health lifestyle...

 

IN OUR GHETTO 2010

 

Instead of working with professional models, Kinabuti chose to launch its first collection with aspiring models from the water front communities of Port Harcourt Niger Delta. Produced by Marcus Werner Hed, well known Swedish Filmmaker, showcased to the world the Kinabuti experience in the documentary "In Our Ghetto" telling the inspiring story of resilience, triumph and success of training girls from disadvantaged communities in the vibrant Niger Delta to become Models.
